It is a vegetarian and vegan food and one of the most widely consumed and recognized foods of the Middle East. It's a very popular fast food around the world, and vendors sell it on the street corners in countries like Egypt. Falafel (/ f ə ˈ l ɑː f əl /; Arabic: فلافل ‎, [fæˈlæːfɪl] (), dialectal: [fæˈlæːfel]) is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.

To get started with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can have falafel using 13 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.

The ingredients needed to make Falafel:
  1. Prepare 2 cups- Dried chickpeas soaked overnight and drained
  2. Get 1 large - onion chopped
  3. Take 1 cup - Chopped Coriander leaves
  4. Prepare 1/2 cup - Chopped Parsley
  5. Prepare 5-6 no - Garlic pods
  6. Prepare 4-5 no - Green Chili
  7. Take 1 tsp - paprika powder
  8. Make ready 1 tsp - Crushed black pepper
  9. Get 1.5 tsp - Cumin Powder
  10. Get 1 tsp - Coriander Powder
  11. Get 1 tsp - Baking Powder
  12. Take to taste Salt
  13. Get 1 cup or as needed - Vegetable oil

Peanut or vegetable oil, for frying. Think of fritters or pancakes and you get the idea. Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern "fast food" made of a mixture of chickpeas (or fava beans), fresh herbs, and spices that are formed into a small patties or balls. It's thought that falafel originated in Egypt as Coptic Christians looked for a hearty replacement for meat during long seasons of fasting or lent.

Instructions to make Falafel:
  1. Pour the chickpeas into a bowl and add enough water into it soak them for overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the Chickpeas and add them in to the food processor.
  3. Add Coriander leaves,Parsley leaves,Onion Garlic pods,Green chili,paprika powder,Crushed Black pepper,Cumin powder,Coriander Powder,salt to taste along with chickpeas in to the food processor.
  4. Now blend all the ingredients together until well combined but don’t make it completely smooth paste (the texture should be looks like uneven).
  5. Now Transfer the mixture in a bowl add baking powder and give a nice mix with a spatula/ Hand.Now Cover the bowl and refrigerate it for 1-2 hours.
  6. Now using your hands or scoop or spoon from the Chickpeas mixture gently shape it into balls or patties.
  7. Now heat the oil in a pan or wok,transfer 5-7 falafel balls or patties (fry the falafel In 2-3 batches,don’t fry them all together) into it,flipping them as needed,fry them until both sides turn into golden brown.In the same process fry all of those falafel.
  8. Now transfer them in a paper towel lined plate.And serve it warm with humus and a side of pita bread.

Scoop out heaping tablespoons of the mixture and shape it into balls or small patties. Fry in batches, without crowding, until nicely browned, turning as necessary; total cooking time per. * Falafel plates - with tabbouleh and/or shredded iceberg lettuce with tomato slices, onion (red or white), Tahini Sauce with optional hummus with pita breads on the side. A spiced pilaf like Mejadra (Middle Eastern Lentil Rice) is a terrific addition as well (and GF option). Falafel is a Middle Eastern food with a long history in Arab countries, as well as ancient Israel. The word falafel may descend from the Arabic word falāfil, a plural of the word filfil, meaning "pepper."These fried vegetarian fritters are often served along with hummus and tahini sauce (known as a "falafel plate.") They're also great served with toum, a Middle Eastern garlic sauce.
